A Tale of Flight Notifications ... or "Its gotta be 17:40 somewhere in the world"

Somtimes you just have to sit back and laugh.

So I'm in YYZ yesterday looking to jump on AA1084 back to LGA at 17:40. The gate is scheduled for B13 so I sit down in the TGIF's right next to the gate.

Earlier in the day, I got my first flight notification;

AA (13:39): ON TIME @ 17:40

Now I don't trust AA's flight notifications to always come through, so I usually set something up through flightstats.com, also. Hence

FS (13:40): On Time @ 17:59

I think no problem as I think FS sometimes shows runway departure time.

Then the fun began

FS (14:53): Delayed, now 18:25
FS (15:01): Delayed, now 17:40
AA (15:17): Delayed, now 18:25
FS (15:48): Delayed, now 18:25

Go to gate, no one's there. Board still says 17:40

AA (17:30): Delayed, now 18:25
AA (17:30): Delayed, now 18:00

Board still says 17:40. Still no one by gate (except some NW crew helping a cancelled NW flight)

AA (17:37): Delayed, now 18:45

So I'm sitting in TGIF's looking at the plane in the gate, thinking "LGA ground holds probably". When suddenly ...

AA (17:37): Delayed, now 17:40

<spit beer onto window> "Holy Sh....., I never missed a plane as I sat and watched it!!"

Run over to gate, GA is making annoucement that "we'll be able to hold the gate" and we expect to be loading by 18:15. Lo and behold ...

AA (17:42): Delayed, now 18:15

Well the story ends with the door closing around 18:45, a park and snore period, followed by wheels up around 19:40 or so.

Just another day on the road
