I sympathize with your experience. It happened to me before and apart from meal vouchers and in my case a hotel night in CDG (the cheapest IBIS hotel), I got nothing.
I still like AF but they are unreliable.
I always give myself 4-6 hours connection at CDG.
I have also given myself 12 hours and just took the bus into Paris and enjoyed a few hours.
I prefer transfering in Amsterdam. Easier to navigate and more options if you get stranded for a few hours.
The best option is still non-stop travel.
I would pursue compensation from them but.... good luck.
