Interesting. Just reinstalled it after using AVG for a couple of years.

My scan was VERY quick. And while it didn't find any false positives, it did find four for-real viruses in mail attachments that AVG had missed.

You're right, that a better design would have been to let you specify in advance of the scan what should be done with detected viruses, but on mine when it hit the first one there was an option to "do the same thing" (quarantine, delete, do nothing) for all future detections.
