No, you're misstating the problem with the exit row seat cushion. It's not that the seat cushion is thinner from top to bottom (which could be partially solved by addition of a blanket); the problem is that seat cushion is shorter from front to back, providing much less support to the backs of one's legs than the typical cushion.
Yes, the legroom is worth it, but let's not misstate why the exit row seats are uncomfortable.
