I believe it is just flights less than three hours that are outside "traditional" meal times where meals will no longer be served.

For example, the SEA-DEN flight at 11:00am on 12/31 had a hot meal (steak sandwiches) in F and C, however the 8:00pm DEN-SEA flight ended meal service in F in (at least) July 2002, but was serving a hot dinner (a nice stuffed chicken) in Feb 2002.

While I think that United's cutting service is a mistake, especially with AA still feeding their F passangers on 750+ mile flights, I expect the number of full-fare F folks they will be losing is probably not going to be *too* huge. Most likely the people who are not normal UA flyers will see this as a "serious issue". Most of us fly UA because we have Elite Status and the benefits of it are more important to us then what they feed us. Also, we fly UA for mileage accumulation so even if I could eat a nice meal in F on AA from SEA-DEN (if they flew the route), I'd pick F on UA for the miles and eat at the sports bar in DEN. :-)
