I have never been offered an UFC. (But then, I'm usually on 2 class a/c and have already upgraded). But on 3 occasions I have asked about getting an UFC.

IAD-FCO in NC. No room in F. no dice.
FCO-IAD in Y. C oversold. no dice.
SFO-ORD in NC. "Sorry, no". But they ended up giving me an op-up to F.
