For point 1, I have to disagree. UA has raised the domestic upgrade from 20K to 30K, which puts it only 10K away from a First saver award. With the possible exception of a transcon, I doubt I'll ever use miles for upgrades again (opting for a saver first award).
For point 2, I looked at the seatmaps for the flights I wanted, and cabins in "F" for my trips are showing zero seats assigned. Coach has seats assigned, but I obviously can't determine if they are awards or not.
For "F" I think it is solely a YM issue.
