Two full days with kids is too much at the pyramids.

a) Should you want to go inside of one of the pyramids, you better be be at the entrance before 8 am. A walk inside will take approx. one hour, depending on the pyramid (they vary daily). However, if you or your party suffers just the slimmest claustrophobia forget about going inside. It takes a 30 to 50 minutes walk uphill through a corridor merly 1.5 metres wide and about 1.6 meteres low (You cannot walk upright!!!). Inside you see nothing really breathtaking.

b) Should you just consider a stroll thorugh the "pyramids park", Cheops, Sphinx & Co with great views, consider about three and a half hour from Cairo downtown.

c) Camel rides might be a exciting option for children. If you decide on having a ride, it's up to you: You can have a five hour ride through the Sahara desert or just a five minutes photo shooting ride.

d) Maybe take the suggested "tour" of a "papyrus museum", if you feel your guide is doing a good job. Will take about 30 minutes, they'll offer you drinks and show you (and your kids!) how papyrus is made. (This should be free!) They usually do not require you to buy anything, but still, they're selling some nice gifts...

--> Only my opinion: You are several days in Cairo. Don't stay at Giza at all. The pyramids can be visited within 3 to 6 hours from downtwon Cairo. Giza is a dull and boring touristy town. The IC in Cairo is right on the Nile, there are very nice dining options off the beaten track. Moreover, hotels in Giza are mostly outdated. If you have enough PC points too, I'd downright head for staying in Cairo.

Your edit:
Don't take taxis to Giza, but book an organized individual tour with the concierge. Take your own car and your own guide. You can go wherever whenever you want and ask whatever you want. A guide for 3 hours is about 10 Euros (15/16 USD), individual transportation will be around 20 to 30 Euros (about 50 USD) for 3 to 6 hours.

Cairo to Giza takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

The Sphinx is next to the pyramids.

Camel rides: Maybe the concierge can help, so you don't have to bargain at the pyramids park.

Should you have any questions, feel free to pm me, too.

Regards,
