Once, flying GRU-ORD, flight was canceled due to mechanical. Went to IAD gate and hovered. Noticed that I was 4th on the waitlist. In the mayhem, the 4th and final boarding card was handed by the agent to the colleague of #3 (interestingly a US CP which got priority over my 1k). It turned out it was my boarding pass. Colleague would have gotten on without looking at bp, and I would have had to fend in GRU. Score one for the hover.
