Cellphone use on ground in US
Just came back on a YYZ-EWR flight, and was wondering about cellphone use after landing. FAA rules say that you can use your cellphone after landing (I believe as soon as you have left the active runway). All the US-based airlines follow this, and make an announcement stating this upon landing. On UA, when they are preparing for decent, I sometimes even hear an announcement saying if you'd like to use your phone after landing, make sure you have it within reach.
Whenever I have landed in the US on AC, they don't tend to say anything either way. Today, on my Jazz flight back, there was a pre-recorded message saying you can not use your cellphone till you get to the gate. Is this correct, or is this just a general pre-recorded announcement that is used based on Canadian regulations? Does AC make you wait till the gate. If so, what is the purpose of this. I can't imagine that they need to follow the Canadian regulations once they have landed on US soil.
Any insight on this would be appreciated.
