Many Avis and Budget vehicles in the New York area are already equipped with an E-Z Pass transponder affixed to the windshield in a slide-out metal case, so that renters have the option of using it (for a $1.50/day fee plus tolls) or not. If you get one of those vehicles, you won't be able to register your transponder with the car's plate, as no more than one E-Z pass account can be registered to a particular plate. (One can, however, register several different plates to a single E-Z Pass account.)
