I think it was really stupid to keep the airport open for the flight to land.
Many reports say the eventual landing was normal (although a second attempt), but that the plane couldn't brake and lost control near the end of the runway.
EDIT: However it is true that there are reports that the airport manager says the plane touched down later than it should because of the conditions and thus TA 390 had less runway to use. We hope the truth comes out with the black box, co-pilot testimony (he survived), other eye witnesses, and the aircraft inspection by international experts.
We had had the remants of the Tropical Storm Alma in the area, and everything was overcast and drizzing in the morning.
The decision to move to Palmerola is a knee-jerk one before getting the results of the investigation (experts are arriving this weekend).
While it's not a bad idea with good planning, TGU still has potential as they could develop it and extend the runway.
Oh well, this is Honduras... and many outcomes result without any expected analysis or intelliegent thought.
