GLOSSARY

Award: Note that award availability in Business / First / Suite classes on SQ's fleet of 77W, A345, and A380 aircrafts are NOT generally available to other *A partners' FFP. You need to have KRISFLYER in order to redeem something like double normal mileage to get access to these seats.

BTC: “Book the Cook”; a service for premium class passengers who are departing from a number of cities, which allows them to pre-order a main dish for their flight.

Changi: SQ’s home base; Singapore’s airport aka SIN.

Connexion (by Boeing): wireless broadband service that was in service for a short period before being discontinued. Currently there is no onboard internet service

Direct vs Non-stop flights: A direct flight is a flight that has a single flight number between origin and destination, and may be non-stop or via another airport. Examples of SQ flights that are direct but not non-stop include SIN-DME-IAH, SIN-FRA-JFK, SIN-NRT-LAX, SIN-HKG-SFO, SIN-ICN-YVR, SIN-MXP-BCN, SIN-LHE-KHI-SIN, SIN-KHI-LHE-SIN, SIN-AUH-JED.

Do: An arranged meeting of fellow travellers / fanatics.

Double-Dipping: The option of crediting Business and First Class miles to another FFP while at the same time earning PPS Value towards PPS Club status.

Executive Economy: the economy class in the A345 aircraft, featuring more legroom (37” seat pitch) than normal SQ economy class flights; more KrisWorld options; a more extensive menu; in-seat power; and a socializing area in the back of the cabin. Executive Economy is currently being removed from A345 aircraft (to be replaced with all new business class).

First Suites: The new suite on SQ A380 aircraft. Has it's own booking class (R) and is currently not able to be booked on awards or any standard first class fares.

KrisFlyer: SQ’s frequent flyer program; see Double-Dipping if you’ll be flying Business or First Class a lot ala PPS; aka KF. * See this thread for Singapore based cc accrual

KrisWorld: SQ’s in-flight entertainment system (movies, TV shows, CDs, games)

Lifetime PPS: Those PPS members who flew sufficient SQ flights in paid Business and First Class by 31 August 2007 have been grandfathered with lifetime status and therefore no longer need to worry about re-qualifying. It is no longer possible to attain Lifetime PPS ; aka LPP

MI: Airline code for Silk Air.

New Business Class: The new wide flat seats in 77W , A345, and A380 aircraft.

New Regional Business: The current lie flat beige leather Business Class seats found on all A330-300 aircraft and a selected few upgraded 777-200, and 777-300 aircrafts.

New First Class: The new super wide flat suite in 77W aircraft.

PITA: Another term for PPS members who test the service ethos of SQ staff; stands for pain in the a** (or a***, depending on the variant of English that you use)

PPS or PPS Club: The true elite tier in the KrisFlyer program, achieved by earning equivalent of SGD $25,000 PPS Value within the 12-month PPS qualification period. PPS status grants *G privileges, and quite a bit more 'extras'.

PPS Value: From 1 September 2008 PPS status is earned only by spend on Singapore and Silk Air Business and First Class flights. See this thread for more details.

QPP: Abbreviation for a KrisFlyer member who has qualified into the PPS Club

Raffles Class: SQ’s old name for Business Class, RIP

Silk Air: Subsidiary serving regional destinations with reduced service (but not low cost - there still is business class). Paid business class flights on Silk Air do earn PPS Value.

Singapore Girl / Boy: SQ’s cabin crew; the centre of gravity of SQ marketing

SKL: Silver Kris Lounge; SQ-operated lounges. Come in two flavours - First and Business class.

Sky Suite: SQ’s First Class seat-bed, available on all SQ 747 aircraft. (now retired-so no longer available)

Solitaire: A PPS member who has accumulated 250,000 PPS Value within 5 years and annually requalified as PPS each year since.

Space Bed: SQ’s Business Class seat, available on all SQ 777-200ERs

SQ: Airline code for Singapore Airlines.

TPP: Abbreviation for a Solitaire member

Turnaround: A trip taken purely to maximize miles, or take advantage of lower prices when tickets are issued from certain cities. If you do a turnaround, you have no intention of exploring the city to which you've travelled: your flight lands and you attempt to turn around and leave on the very next departing flight. It's one of those practices (like not having to look up the departure and arrival times of specific flight numbers) that signify your membership in the ranks of hardcore frequent flyers

Wisemen 3000: SQ’s AVOD system, available on all long-haul flights but, unfortunately, not necessarily on all intra-Asia flights.

More generally, there are abbreviations, such as airline codes and fare booking classes, that FTers often take for granted during their discussions. Two useful threads for these are, respectively, *A Useful Reference Links and *A Booking Classes.
