I once assisted in a medical emergency on a BA flight (YVR-LHR): spent about 4 hrs tending to the patient on the aisle in Y (not a great flight!). The CC were excellent, however.

Anyway, I was sent a 'case of three bottles' as a thank you from BA, unsolicited. I wrote back a polite e-mail saying thanks, but I'm actually tee-total. Didn't receive a response back. A friend said the wine was 'very drinkable', and he's quite a snob, so it was probably fairly good. So it appears this is a fairly standard form of BA good-will gesture etc. Personally, I would have preferred a slug of miles!
