Is a 42 minute connection long enough for Salt Lake City (SLC)?

These flights are Delta flights operated by Skywest airlines, both flights are on concourse E.
So is this connection long enough so we don't miss our 2nd flight? Is Skywest a reliable airline?
If we go with this flight and miss our flight, can delta put us onto the flights of their codeshare partners? I'm asking this because delta operates no more flights to puerto vallarta until the next day.
