*A awards can not be booked as one way - I've tried using UA, AC and UA miles to do it. You have to select a return date you just don't have to fly it and they charge for the full round trip.

You can mix premium and saver awards with US and only spend 37,500 miles - get him the premium flight out he wants and select a return some time in the future when a saver level ticket is available.
