Collecting Strollers/Pushchairs Airside at LHR/LGW

Planning to fly through LHR and connect to ATH with my 13 month old in tow. Perusal of the BA site yields the following:

Please note: London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports have already advised us that, due to the volume of flights and passengers that use the airport, they are unable to deliver children's pushchairs at the aircraft side.It must be collected from the baggage arrivals hall.

So, if I take the pushchair to the gate on my original flight, does this mean I'd have to collect it at baggage claim at LHR/LGW or at our final destination? Is there any chance of collecting it after we land at LHR? I am not that excited at the prospect of carrying my not-yet-walking toddler through LHR and onto my connecting flight.

Does anyone have any experience with collecting a pushchair airside after arriving at LHR/LGW? Does the quoted policy above uniformly apply or is there any leeway?

Thanks very much.
