The area around Salta sounds like a wonderful part of Argentina to visit. Thanks for the links to the tourism websites and the Guardian article.

It appears from maps I have looked at ( not very detailed maps unfortunately ) that a person should be able to travel overland from Salta through the Andes into Northern Chile, probably ending up near San Pedro de Atacama.

Does anyone have any experience or information about travelling this route by bus or train.
