You've provided a lot of great information about Barbados, but I wanted to say something about malaria in the rest of the islands. The Caribbean is not a malarial zone. There has always been a small risk on Haiti/Dominican Republic, and recently there have been isolated outbreaks in Kingston, Jamaica and Great Exuma, Bahamas. The rest of the Caribbean is free of malaria.

Snakes, I don't know for sure--I have noticed them only on Guadeloupe--but it is is not any kind of issue where tourists are being attacked by snakes throughout the Caribbean.
