39. Ni'ihau, the smallest inhabited Hawaiian island, is known as the "Forbidden Isle" due to it's remoteness and the fact that you need a permit to even visit. It is also the only island where native Hawaiian is the prevalent language.
40. The smallest island, Kahoolawe, has been in government (military) control since WWII and has been the site of live-ordinance training until 1990.
