Sky Digital TV System Insurance - is it worth it?
Hi folks - question for any of you who have Sky TV at home.
I ordered Sky just under a year ago, and now the free 12-month warranty on the system is expiring. The nice folks from some company who Sky has subcontracted to have sent me a letter saying the following:
IF YOU REQUIRE A SERVICE CALL AND YOUR SKY DIGITAL SYSTEM IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, YOU WILL NOW BE CHARGED A MINIMUM CALL OUT FEE OF £72.
They've offered me what they call a bargain-basement rate of £5.99/month for this insurance, which gives me same-day service from a Sky engineer, blah blah blah.
Question for you: is this coverage worth it? My gut says no - specifically because £5.99 for a year is already £72, so it's be definition not worth it if I have fewer than one call-out per year. But do any of you have this coverage, or wish you'd ordered it?
I have always eschewed buying insurance for appliances from Currys, etc., because they always seem so expensive and never worth it, but I thought the satellite system might be an exception. Then again, there's really not much to it aside from a dish, a wire and a box. How much can possibly go wrong?
What do you folks think?
Thanks!
