If you have a booking reference ask your girlfriend to call BA Reservations in the US IMMEDIATELY and ask them to give her the ticket number if the ticket was issued, and explain when that ticket was issued and whether it is a miles booking. If the ticket is in her name and she has a booking reference BA will give her all the info.

Even if the ticket has been issued, remember a miles ticket can be pulled at any time by the account holder. Unless she clarifies with this guy what happened to the other nonexistent ticket she paid for, I would not trust him.
