Matthew - I don't have an accurate answer - buy my "understanding" was different than yours - my understanding was that you only have the right to stand-by for the same routing - not even a different connection. On the other hand, there have been *many* times that agents (for various airlines) have allowed me to go on the non-stop, but I always assumed that was a "favor."
