Hello all,

I had a quick question regarding an issue I had this past week. I called United about a direct flight from BOS to LAX and was told the flight was wide open. When I arrived at the airport, I asked at check in if I could be put on the standby list for the direct flight rather than my connection through ORD. I was told that because I paid for a connection flight, I could not be put on the direct flight even though it was empty.

Is this policy? I normally fly direct and have not encountered this situation before.
