JFK-BOM at 7800 is 15.45hours
ATL-PVG at 7659 miles is 15.40hours
-- JFK-BOM is only 100 miles more thanATL-PVG and about the same flight time
ATL-DXB at 7598 is 14hours
-- This flight is about 2 hours less and only 200 less miles than JFK-BOM

Why is ATL-DXB so much shorter in flight?
