After thinking about it a bit more, the steps in the article, while good, are merely what UA needs to do to weather the bankruptcy storm and simply stay in business. In the long run, structural changes are still needed. And I'm not sure, (and this has been beaten to death in other threads), how likely it is that management/unions will work together to achieve that.

For instance, the idea of enhancing service idea is brilliant - I think it would go a long way to keeping people with UA - but based on some of the animosity I heard expressed by some senior FAs on a flight this week, I seriously doubt there is enough esprit de corps left in the company to pull together and pull off some of these suggestions.
