transpac - just remember that many, many folk were living in Thailand and doing the visa-run thing every 3 months (continuous renewal of visitor visa every 3 months). Some lived mainly in Thailand, others lived mainly worked overseas and lived in Thailand in the 'off-work' period.

I recall the Thai government last year (or 2006) started enforcing the existing laws which limited the amount of time in country to 50% in any Calendar year and cracking down on foreigners working illegally in Thailand - certainly this screwed up a lot of folk who had effectively lived full time in Thailand for many years without problems, but technically quite illegally (as they were working...).
