I live a bit closer to BOS than MHT but I try to go out of MHT whenever I can because it's so easy to get to and to deal with when you are there. I think there is a bit of "cutting of one's nose in spite of their face" here. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be happy if United went all regional jets out of MHT but consider: the longest flight out of MHT on UX is to ORD which is just about 2 hours--is the loss in some personal comfort for two hours anywhere near the hassle (not to mention extra $$$ if you can't expense it) of driving in and out of Boston. That still isn't enough to make me choose BOS over MHT. Now if I was flying nonstop from MHT to LAX, DEN or SFO and I had to do it all on a regional jet that'd be a different story, but no way to me does the inconvenience of at most 2 hours on a regional jet instead of a mainline jet outweigh the inconvenience of driving to BOS instead of MHT to me.
