B Watson makes a very fine point: it is the absolutely amazing service (read: product) that SQ can provide that wins revenue. Remember, people, what United needs now is REVENUE, not loyalty (regardless of whether such loyalty is inspired by a convoluted upgrade system). Therefore, a PPS system is only appropriate if it can deliver a fine frequent flier product - one that inspires people to book United because there is a unique reward.
