Let me say first of all, as someone (with no children) who always aims for the UD in CW, I am of this opinion too - it makes the UD (which is already a quieter area due to its size) much more peaceful.

However, I also accept that this smacks of a NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) attitude since (as is always raised in debates about flying with children) you likely to be disturbing fewer people in the small cabin upstairs than downstairs.

Still, depending on the size / age / desire to have a window seat of the children, I would say the best solution may be to seat yourselves downstairs in the middle block to keep the family together.
I would generaly agree but it very much depends on the children and their ability to behave in such circumstances. Normaly when we go on holiday using points we go WT+ 2+2 by the windows if possible. Also my kids tend to complain about my behaviour and get embarssed.

Although last time we did go CW (had GFUs to use up) again 2+2 by the window which they loved, apart from a business traveler who complained loudly and vociferously to the CSD (in our earshot) as to why he'd been allocated an aisle seat in the middle section when there were children with window seats. Whilst this may be a valid concern he should have done it away from us, and not laid guilt on my children for a BA decision and/or their lack of status (i'm Gold and my wife's Silver).
