We flew with our 11 and 12 year olds to Mexico last month - lower on the way out, and upper on the way back. They actually preferred the lower deck - they liked the two back facing seats in the middle because they could make their own little 'den'. Privacy screens up, seats down, tv screens out, and drinks and snacks from the crew - they loved it.
