I shifted my travel to all other airlines, only started to monitor the fare/quality/schedule factor. I started to trust on my PriorityPass and also started to look other ways to achieve airline statuses.
Lots of this business went to Finnair directly but also random flights here and there to Lufthansa, BA and Cathay Pacific.
Earlier I considered SAS as my primary airline, now I travel with them when they either offer cheap tickets or convenient schedule. Definitely they are not my preferred airline any longer.
My Star Alliance membership is still with SAS as I haven't found any other and I still spend most of the time in Finland so local benefits are better with Eurobonus than with others. And especially EB connection to SEB. Most likely I will not give up on my membership because of this connection, I just don't fly with SAS so much.
To me the 25% rule is okay if there would be actually easy way to always know which class you are (why not all Economy classes being 25% and the 100% being Economy Extra?) and also if at the same time the overall service level would go up. To me 25% rule presents the appreciation towards EB members, I am sure SAS doesn't appreciate me traveling with them and they most likely are happy that I am not flying with them so much.
From value point of view, 25% point tickets are too expensive to be valuable, if they would be cheaper then I would be perfectly fine with the rule. If they would bring the old service back then I might accept the rule with the current price level with a little bit whining.
But I think EB is correct, 25% rule affects only those who calculate points. And of course it is like that - if you don't calculate the points and you just fly with SAS from other reasons then naturally the rule doesn't affect you.
