It's good to know that LHR-YVR on BA is easy to get.

How easy is availability on YVR-JFK on CX?
YVR-JFK is usually easy enough. The other direction can be a little tight sometimes due to through pax to HKG.

Note that 2-class AA domestic flights book into A on DONEx fares, so earn a 50% class-of-service bonus compared to the 25% in D that you'd earn on YVR-JFK.

One other thing to remember if you're starting in Sept/Oct - if you're using the DONEx to try to hit EXP via qualifying points (which is quite doable) don't forget that the 100K Q-pts have to be earned in the same calendar year. So if your plan was to have the RTW span over 2008-2009 your points would reset to nada on 1/1.
