It is possible that non-status can see exit rows on-line within the 24 hour mark. Not very often but it can happen. I've done it before on several flights and moved into exit row seats a few hours before the flight when I was non-status.

Just be sure you don't do the on-line check in first. Once you've done OLCI you can't change your seats, they can only do that for you at the airport.
