Business colleague who couldn't get it to work just returned from overseas trip. Borrowed his BB for a few minutes, set up wifi preferences and connections and was able to connect to our office wifi (just like me) and got the same UMA signal....only difference is he had already cancelled his h@h plan two months ago.

No. If you don't have the plan, minutes/bandwidth come out of your normal "home" allotment. If you have the h@h plan, then it's unlimited minutes/bandwidth. SMS comes out of your sms allotment either way.
