Free h@h?

FWIW - recently got my first BB, the 8820 and signed up for h@h. It works fine, got the famous "UMA" signal (not the 'uma' signal).

Business colleague who couldn't get it to work just returned from overseas trip. Borrowed his BB for a few minutes, set up wifi preferences and connections and was able to connect to our office wifi (just like me) and got the same UMA signal....only difference is he had already cancelled his h@h plan two months ago.

Does this mean he's got h@h free??
