Only on FlyerTalk could the following be seen as deceptive and dishonest:

Base fare: X
Fuel surcharge: X
Extra baggage: X
AIF: X
NAV: X
Tax: X
Other tax: X
Security fee: X
etc.

given that this information can be obtained by any number of websites, compared with any other airline's prices, and you can even find out what all the range of possible prices could be for any airline, and you can get a big discount if you say you don't want to ever get a refund, and so on...

while the price of a $200 pair of running shoes stitched together in some godforsaken factory for a few pennies would be seen as "transparent".

I cannot think of any other industry in which the pricing is more transparent and open for all to see. Sure, many people choose to be blind, while many others simply allow the blood to boil into their eyeballs.
