I have also wondered about the lack of love for 1A. I think it's the best seat on the plane. Looking out the window you can easily forget that there's anyone else onboard.

Bryenz: I'll have to try asking for the forward closet. Usually, I'm stuck climbing backward to get my bag. Although, on one of the ERJ variants, there's a little briefcase sized compartment in the galley wall, right across from the seat. I've had FA's take my bag and place it there before as well. That was very nice.
