I found out a week or so ago that they seem to have stopped doing document checks in the regions (GLA in my case), but there is a BA manned desk next to the BAA checkpoint when you transfer from T5 domestic arrivals to T5 International departures and the BA staff there will check your passport before BAA will let you through.

Alll worked very quickly and efficiently for us 10 days ago.
