I probably stay in as many Four Seasons etc properties as anyone on here. However, last time I did something similar (on an ex-EU from Rome) I was perfectly happy to crash in the Hilton at the airport because I knew it was only a short walk through the terminal. No buses, nothing that could go wrong, no risk I wouldn't make it back to the airport in time - there is an element of luxury in knowing all that is sorted out.
Similarly, I have been seriously peeved at corporate offsites which have involved me travelling to the dark corners of Europe, substantial drives from airports, only to stay in a supposed 'luxury' hotel which is a) nothing of the type and b) which I never see properly anyway.
I'd also suggest that, depending on who is paying, I may be a little worried to know that my companies money was being spent on chauffeuring me at the dead of night to a country house pile like Cliveden, especially when all I want to do is sleep.
And, of course, if money and luxe really was no object you would pay for the 2 nights at Cliveden even though they would only be staying for one ...
