I think your visa and passport would be check in EDI. You will not be issued your BP for the onward connection unless your docs are Okay.

We were recently connecting from ORD to KBP and they checked our docs in Chicago. At Flight Connection in T5 they just check whether you can make the flight (that is, have more than 35 minutes before departure).
