I used to have a BoA account, which I opened because the employee at my local branch told me there would be no fee for any Deutsche Bank ATM withdrawals, including branches in Italy.

For a while, every time I used it at an Italian Deutsche Bank ATM, they would charge me the fee and I would call and have it removed. But about a year ago, I was advised that Deutsche Bank locations in Italy were not considered part of the alliance, only those in Germany, so Italian Deutsche Bank transactions were not fee-free.

I switched to another bank and now do not pay any foreign ATM fees.
