Dumb newbie question- one way vs. r/t
I'm sorry to ask this question, its so basic, but I've never booked a trip with miles before. (And I haven't booked that many flights in total, either). It seems that finding a "saver" seat is about as easy as catching a leprechaun in the unicorn forest.
Anyway... is it possible to book one-way tickets with miles? I just saw a "saver" ticket available on my return date. Could I get the return ticket now, and then keep looking for a departure flight?
Or do the rules require you to use miles to buy round trip tickets only?
My head hurts. If it matters, I can use MR, CO or UA points; I'm flying RNO-MDZ (Reno to Mendoza, Argentina), though I'd be happy to just get a ticket to SCL (Santiago, Chile) from anywhere in the USA and handle the connecting flights on either end myself. Flying out end of July, returning beginning of September.
These are great forums though, I've spent the last two days reading them and found answers to all my questions without having to ask, including questions I didn't know I had.
