You have to stay in the room for credit, with the exception that two rooms, if billed on the same folio in your name can get credit, but the bill would have to be in your name.

To earn HHonors points for hotel stays, a Member must be a registered, paying guest at a participating HHonors hotel

You may earn Base point credit for up to two rooms per stay, if all eligible charges for both rooms are paid on one folio.
