I haven't ever booked a reward stay online, so am wondering, what happens if you have to cancel the reservation? Does Hilton return the withdrawn points to your account?

I know the hotel has a cancellation deadline, but am wondering how HH handles this for rewards points.

I read this online but nothing about canceling reward stays:

"Upon completing your Reward Reservation, you will receive both a reservation confirmation number and a reward confirmation ID, which must be presented to the hotel at check-in."
