HKG does not accept .bomb boarding passes

Transited HKG on Saturday night on my MR to SIN (flying PDX-SFO-LAX-HKG-SIN). I had checked-in for my flights at home the previous day.

When we arrived in HKG, the transit pax to SGN and SIN were directed to go back through a special security screening before going upstairs to the UA gate (a very easy transfer with limited walking all things considered). The HKG security staff who inspect boarding passes would not allow 5 of us with passes printed at home to go through the line and directed us to go to the United counter to have them re-printed.

Luckily I checked with the UA agent who was meeting the pax getting off the LAX flight before walking all the way to the UA transit desk and he escorted us through the security and up to the departure gate to get new boarding passes printed. He said that HKG does not accept passes from United.com and they get a few people every night who are stopped. So, if you are transiting HKG and have checked in at home, stop by the RCC or counter in LAX/SFO/ORD and have them print a real BP before you get on that flight.

The HKG transit was very efficient and even with this delay I was back on a plane 25 minutes after we pulled up to the gate. A delay in LAX meant there was no chance of visiting any lounge but even if we had been on time I'm not sure I would have been able to pull it off or even really wanted to since the gates were right next to each other.

As a side note, the LAX-HKG flight was at best 60% full -- whole rows in C empty and passengers with their own rows in E+.
