Yes, we also got the Visa Verisign page. We got all excited as this was different from what we experienced with other cards. We thought it was a sign that this time it would go through. But even after we authorized with Visa, Trenitalia denied us. I don't know what magic combination of variables will unlock the gate, but I'm getting tired of trying.
I may try calling the hotel concierge as FrAAmer suggested to see if they can help. Thanks.
