Remember that you do *NOT* want to get the drive wet, just cold. If this fixes it the effect persists only so long as it's cold but once the drive is spun up it will likely continue to work until it spins down. Note that this means that if it comes up you want to disable drive spindown (in power management) if you're not continuously copying the data off.
