There is still much controversy over what happened and at one point theY were calling the site "Ground Zero" and laying blame at the feet of militant groups like Abu Sayaaf and Al Queada linked organizations. They were even using the event to rally $upport from the west. It's anyone's guess as to what really happened because those who are truly in the know may never have reason to give honest answers. Several investigations have taken place and as many claims have been made by those with motives to take a particular position.

Both the FBI and the Australian Federal Police sent in investigators within hours. Both came out with a finding that there was no bomb. This information was put out by the Philippine National Police a few days after the explosion, but the news media was understandably less interested in that story. When you look at the photos of the scene, it is understandable that initially there was an assumption that it was a bomb. As for the rumors which continue to swirl, nothing can happen in Manila without a hundred conspiracy theories making the rounds.
