I've finally gotten it and do not check luggage for any trip of three nights or less. Since most of my trips are that length, I haven't checked luggage in weeks.

But, as most of you know, the darn planes are so crowded and everybody else has the same idea about not checking luggage, the overhead bins get filled real fast. So, I am ashamed to admit, I have become the dreaded Gate Lice. When I don't get an upgrade, I hang out by the boarding area and as soon as my zone is called, I rush to board the plane to get my share of overhead bin space.

Of course part of the problem is what passes for carry on's these days, or at least, what the airlines allow as carry on's these days.

In any event, please have pity on me and don't judge me for what I do.
